From The Dalles Chronicle, Tuesday, October 7, 1986:
"A group show of handcrafted furniture by David Swann and Tim Southworth with fused glass by Ray Ahlgren will be shown at The Dalles Art Center October 1-31. "Swann graduated from an Oregon state certified woodworking apprenticeship program in Portland and won first place in the 1976 woodworking apprenticeship contest. He has had two shows at the Columbia Art Gallery in Hood River and belongs to the Oregon Woodworkers Guild. Two of his pieces were shown in the Oregon state capitol in 1985. He built a table for the Magna Carta display at the Pregon Historical Society Museum in Portland. Commissions comprise the bulk of his work. "Currently he resides in Appleton, Washington, and has his studio in the old schoolhouse. He calls his business Old School Woodcrafter. 'Sort of a play on words,' he said. He designs all his pieces as he works on them. In addition to cabinetry, he designs and handcrafts musical instruments." |
For more than 40 years, Dave Swann has been designing and building custom furniture, cabinetry, architectural woodwork, and homes. Dave's work brings to tangible reality the aspirations, dreams, feelings, ideas, wishes of individuals from all walks of life.
Working together with a client, Dave brings to bear his decades of experience and intuitive feel for the properties of wood to bring to life the physical reality represented by the client's ideas.
Dave uses a variety of wood species, both local and from around the world, crafting lumber and select veneers into beautiful furniture for home or office.
Dave works with clients who bring drawings defining precisely what they want, those who ask Dave to use his own creative ideas to come up with something special, and everybody in between. Dave works collaboratively with the client throughout the design process.
Now located in downtown White Salmon, Old School Woodcrafter once called home an old schoolhouse in the small settlement of Appleton, Washington.
